Lake Cocococha, located inside the Tambopata National Reserve, is our precious oxbow lake jewel – a true paradise for nature lovers. To have the best chance of observing local fauna, like the endangered Giant River Otters, one must wake up very early for a very special 5.5 km (3.4 miles) trek from the lodge; the walk to the lake is an experience in itself, allowing your senses to delve into the lush majesty of a primary forest: ancient trees, exotic flowers, native fruits, animal footprints, and the sound of life surrounding your every step, ending with the magnificent landscape of the lake at the end of the walk, an unforgettable and wildly unique experience!
While we play a game of hide-and-seek with the River Otters, you will enjoy a healthy snack and journey around the lake on small canoes allowing you to spot and enjoy the variety of wildlife that can only be found in this unique ecosystem; caymans, hoatzins, and horned screamers are only a few of the birds and mammals you will be encountering on this adventure!
